In the words of an old song, “The Stock Market is a place where the order comes in, so that all things are in balance.” It is an organizing principle of how business is normally done – all items being in relation to each other and in accordance with their respective capacities to meet a demand. A stock market, equity market, or exchange market is where shares of stock issued by publicly traded companies are purchased by purchasers at a price determined by a broker-dealer on behalf of a customer.

Stock exchanges can be located all over the world. There are two types of stock exchanges: The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the NASDAQ. The New York Stock Exchange, or NYSE, is regarded as the major exchanges for U.S. listed securities. The NASDAQ is an international exchange that provides stock exchanges for foreign listed securities.

The Stock Market is a very important part of our economic system. Without it, there would be no such thing as economic growth or expansion. Stock markets are where shares of companies are bought and sold to investors. The most well-known stocks, markets are those of New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ, which are traded in Manhattan, New York. Other major stock exchanges are London Stock Exchange (LSE), Chicago Stock Exchange (clockwise around the globe), and Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE).
